After the break caused by corona pandemic, Team GRX’s Emil Lindholm and Mikael Korhonen will return back to action in FIA European Rally Championship event driven in Italy 24- 26 of July. The TGS Worldwide’s Škoda driving twosome will participate in Rally di Roma Capitale, driven in tarmac, as test drivers for Indian MRF Tyres.
Prior to the corona pandemic the rally calendar of Emil Lindholm and Mikael Korhonen would have included two, spring season, ERC-rallies funded by Indian tyre company MRF Tyres, which were postponed to a later date. The third ERC-rally in Rome, which is also part of MRF’s test programme, remained on its place on the calendar and now is confirmed according to its original plan and schedule.
FIA European Rally Championship competition Rally di Roma Capitale will be competed fully in tarmac settings.
“It’s great to be back behind the wheel after a five month break. It’s interesting to start the summer season from tarmac rally but then again, this year has been quite unordinary this far”, Lindholm says.
Lindholm tells he is looking forward to seeing how MRF tyre works in competitive conditions.
“I have had a chance to drive with the tyre once before. The tyre felt surprisingly good considering it is on the beginning of its development. Hyundai’s Craig Breen is driving as the tyre manufacturers’ second test driver in the same rallies. It’s great that a really good professional driver drives the same tyre so I can compare my speed to him. Breen drives Hyundai’s R5-car”, Lindholm tells.
Lindholm will take part of the rally, driven in the outskirts of Italy’s capital Rome, for the first time. The young Finnish driver has already gained some experience of Italian tarmac roads.
“Local drivers drive tremendously fast. However, I have recently driven few tarmac rallies in Italy. For example, couple of years ago I drove Italian National Championship competition Rally Casentino, which is a test competition for the ECR in Rome. I have some knowledge of the driving conditions and profiles of the roads”.
Although the WRC Rally Finland was cancelled from August, this upcoming month is going to be a busy one for Lindholm and Korhonen. Their programme includes Finnish Rally Championship-rallies and perhaps rallies that may change from ECR to WRC-rallies.
