Lindholm takes the second place in Turku - continues on the lead of the Finnish Championship points
15 May 2022
Team GRX’s Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen finished second in the opener of the Finnish Rally Championship summer season, Mad-Croc Länsirannikon Rally, in Turku. With their second place, the duo will continue in the SM1 class points lead.

Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen, who are competing with TGS Worldwide's Škoda, started the summer season with a second place in the Finnish Championship series in Turku. Lindholm, who was the first to drive on the route, cleared the road for others and suffered from loose gravel. However, Lindholm doesn’t want anyone to think he only had the role of the road cleaner. He wants to emphasize that his competitors drove a really good and fast level rally in Turku.

- Yes, this was the toughest Finnish Championship rally I have driven in my driving career. My starting place was what it was and I’m to blame for it myself. The level of this competition was tough. Already on Friday the asphalt special stages showed what was to come. We compared the data between our team’s drivers and the differences came from minor mistakes.

- We had a good fight. Before the last special stage I would have been happy with finishing on third, but we rose to second place. I think the last special stage was really challenging to drive. The grip varied the whole time and the mistakes were easy to make. Second place was a great victory for us. We got three more important Finnish Championship points from the last special stage. We kept our Finnish Championship top spot and that’s a good thing, Lindholm summed up.

Lindholm was 5.9 seconds behind the winner of the rally.

- On Friday I made a mistake when I decided to go on the asphalt with new gravel tires. I got behind the top cars for two seconds but I know I could’ve done better. This rally showed that you need to turn every stone in front of you and every tithe and decimal matters. All of your decisions need to be on point. You won’t get anything easily in this series. You can’t give others any room or they will take the advantage, Lindholm recalled.

- Everything is still open for the Finnish Championship series. We are happy to have a rally series with this kind of competition and level. Everyone benefits from it. We kept our Finnish Championship points lead, which means that we will also open the route in the next rally of the series, Lindholm reminded.

The Finnish Rally Championship series continues 17-18th of June with Pohjanmaa Rally driven in Seinäjoki.
