Emil Lindholm: “We need points and will take all we can get”
12 June 2019
Team GRX’s Emil Lindholm and Mikael Korhonen, who had to retire from The Finnish Rally Championship summer opener in Riihimäki, are looking for a flawless performance in Seinäjoki’s Pohjanmaa Rally. Lindholm drove his preliminary test on Monday with his Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 in Mouhijärvi and everything is ready for the upcoming event.
Lindholm and Korhonen are starting Pohjanmaa Rally, after the front wheel drive cars, with number 29.
“We have a good feeling of the test day. I could tell we didn’t drive too many kilometres on gravel in Riihimäki. I was still little unsure of my driving but I’m going to drive a short shakedown on Thursday before the competition and after that I am sure we are ready for the rally”.
This year Lindholm has two wins and two rallies without points under his belt so all points are important in this part of the season.
“I am going to drive my own competition not forcing things to happen. If winning the rally is possible of course I’ll go for it. All the points are important and I’ll take what I can because I think my classes championship is resolved on the last competition”.
“I also need more kilometres for the upcoming Rally Finland which is the highlight of the summer season”, Lindholm reminds.
A year ago a tire blowout ruined Lindholm’s Pohjanmaa Rally on the first special stage.
“We dropped immediately from the top group and ended up finishing in 6th place. Our special stage times on the second day of the rally were comparable to the top times. It is nice that the rally has been split into two days. According to the last years rally this competition has very good roads”, Lindholm says.
SM Pohjanmaa Rally is driven this upcoming Friday and Saturday in Seinäjoki and surrounding areas. First car starts from Hotel Sorsanpesä on Friday at 19:01. On the opening days programme there is three special stages, together 24,67 kilometres. The rally continues Saturday starting 9:21, with 6 special stages, overall 89,81 kilometres. Competitors are expected at the finish line at Hotel Sorsanpesä arriving 17:20.
