Team GRX’s Emil Lindholm and Mikael Korhonen drove a flawless closing day in WRC ACI Rally Monza, finishing fourth in the WRC3 class. In the overall results the Finnish duo placed 11th.
Team GRX’s Emil Lindholm and Mikael Korhonen drove the last three special stages of the WRC ACI Rally Monza, the last World Championship event of the season, flawlessly finishing fourth in the WRC3 class with the Hungarian Eurosol Racing Team’s Škoda Fabia R5 Evo. In the overall competition the Finnish duo ended up in the 11th place, exactly like in this year's WRC Rally Sweden. The first WRC point of their career was only one second away.
“Today’s two last special stages were in terrible condition. They were the most challenging special stages of the Monza’s track area. The road was pitted with huge potholes. Our Škoda held up great, as did the tyres”, Lindholm explained.
“Of course I could have driven that last special stage a second harder so we could have gotten that one WRC point. Our main focus was on the WRC3 class’ situation and on bringing our car intact to the finish line”, Lindholm reminds.
Lindholm says the difficult weather in Monza brought a lot of important hands-on experience of driving conditions and tyre choices to his Bank of experience.
“If we ever get to drive in Monte Carlo then we have already gotten important experience and knowledge from this competition. This was a good simulator for that. It was a good thing in general that we got to drive here using Monte snow tyres on tarmac, snow and slush”, Lindholm says.
“We had better spot on the final results with in our grasp. A punctured tyre on Saturday took our chances on the podium but fourth place isn’t bad either. We got to drive two WRC3 events this year and finished fifth in the series. It is a pretty good result. Taken as a whole, 2020 was a good year for us to experience driving on different kinds of chassis. We learned a lot”, Lindholm summed up at the finish line before he was directed to a doping test.
